Project: Request projects

B-Fabric: Manage data

Service: Order services

The B-Fabric project investigates and develops information infrastructures for managing and integrating data in life sciences environments. The ultimate infrastructure among others delivers a central LIMS capturing two essential requirements of successful scientific research:

  1. Fulfill the integration requirements associated with multiple metadata databases, unique project-based workflow and data services
  2. Ensure that the data being kept in the document store is available for future use and independent of any specific application

Besides data management, integration, and presentation issues, the envisioned B-Fabric infrastructure covers all main aspects of productive information management system, including reliability, performance, transparent access, standard access protocols, authentication, and authorization. By providing a large set of interfaces for common life science research instruments and unique methodologies, systematic annotation of data by the researcher and automatic meta data retrieval has to be ensured. For this, B-Fabric provides a workflow-driven interface which enforces entry of scientifically and analytically required data. For ease of use, smart typing wizards are developed. The ultimate goal is to support correct data retrieval from complex searches over multiple studies and provide the scientist with research reports and references to the data sources. Data fabric (grid) techniques are exploited to achieve the required level of transparency and performance.
