Development of a taxonomic array for the identification of bacterial strains from hybridizations of 16S rRNA.
The goal of the project is to establish a microarray that can discriminate different Burkholderia and Pseudomonas strains and can serve thus to monitor environmental populations of these species.
From the technological side, the key research aspects are:
- selection and validation of microarray probes
- development of a statistical algorithm to detect the presence of individual strains and to assess the significance
The project is currently ongoing and is scheduled to finish in Summer 2007.
This project is in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology located at the Institute of Plant Biology of the University of Zurich.
