Collaborative Research and Development

In cases where requested projects exceed the capabilities or capacities of existing technologies, support workflows, or data analysis strategies, a broader collaboration between the life science research group and the FGCZ can be established. The same holds true for the development of novel methods or approaches, initiated by the FGCZ or the life science research group.

Such a collaboration is expressed by an additional agreement between the FGCZ and the user group, where the additional contributions of the FGCZ are clarified. Typically, the user group brings in its biological domain knowledge and defines the scientifically relevant biological questions, while the FGCZ contributes its competence in technology and bioinformatics in order to develop dedicated methods and algorithms that solve the question. The goal of such a collaboration is then to make significant scientific contributions to both, the biology and the technology.

Collaborative R&D projects often feature the joint funding of staff, as illustrated in the FGCZ Mindmap.
