Collaborative Research and Development

If in a requested project the demands for functional genomics technologies and support goes beyond what the FGCZ can cover with its standard support model, then the FGCZ may enter a research collaboration with the requesting user group.

Such a collaboration is expressed by an additional agreement between the FGCZ and the user group, where the additional contributions of the FGCZ are clarified. Typically, the user group brings in its biological domain knowledge and defines the scientifically relevant biological questions, while the FGCZ contributes its competence in technology and bioinformatics in order to develop dedicated methods and algorithms that solve the question. The goal of such a collaboration is then to make significant scientific contributions to both, the biology and the technology.

Examples of recent collaborations are:

• Research > Phylochip -- an optimized approach to the strain identification with diagnostic microarrays
• Research > ADE -- statistical data analysis to improve the proteome coverage of shotgun proteomics
